Not only was Molly Weasley a part of the resistance, but she went on to have 7 children knowing that Voldemort wasn’t fully defeated. She could have easily decided that it was selfish or unwise to have any children at all in such a world (especially given their financial circumstances) but she welcomed life anyway. I’ve always loved the character of Molly Wesley.

I love this! My son is dressed as a Hogwarts student for Book Character Day at school. I just yelled at him “Don't run with your wand!” and realized I was channeling Molly. 😂

What a joy to read this post Kathryn! I always loved, and truly laughed out loud at Molly Weasley's quick wit and fierce portrayal of motherhood to her own children and the extras like Harry and Hermione throughout the series. This is such a clever post but also sprinkled with so much wisdom and challenge. From an old Mom and Grammy, I appreciate all the heart you poured into this post. Blessings to you and yours.

I’m re-reading Harry Potter (currently on Order of the Phoenix) during nursing hours and have been so transfixed by Molly Weasley now that I’m a mother. I love every bit of your article—the final point gave me chills! I’m saving this to revisit for inspiration 🧣🧹🦉✨

Oh my goodness, that is so kind! I think Order of the Phoenix Molly is my favorite 😍😍😍

I love it! I’ve often wondered how JK Rowling wrote her as well as she did. I don’t know her personally of course, but she doesn’t seem like she is a Molly type person so she must know the kind of person intimately to be able to write one this well. It is usually hard for liberal feminist type females to truly understand deeply committed home and family centered women, not to stereo-type and under rate them. I cried when Molly killed Bellatrix, particularly in the movie because it brought the scene to life so well, and I loved that JK reserved that role for Molly. It was so perfect. Her ability to fiercely defend everything she loved and believed in.

This was so lovely to read. Such a well-written article! I’ve only read a few of the Harry Potter books, but I enjoyed the mothering and homemaking of Molly Weasley. And this makes me want to try to read them again.

Thanks for writing it. I’m going to share it on my Substack.

Thank you for taking the time to put together this comparison - she is definitely a fantastic literary example! And lowkey a ‘cozy’ fashion icon!
